We sell fresh chestnuts directly to you from our small orchard in Boone, County, Missouri. We grow them for our enjoyment and yours. It’s a family operation; our grown children and our rapidly growing grandchildren all lend a hand at harvest time.
Our chestnuts mature in September and October each year. We hand-pick the chestnuts. Then the chestnuts are washed, dried, inspected and refrigerated prior to sale. We remove undersized nuts and sell the rest in mixed batches including nut sizes from small to jumbo. We find that the large chestnuts are usually best for cooking in casseroles, soups, dressings, desserts and specialty dishes because it requires preparing relatively few chestnuts per cup or per pound. However, we prefer smaller chestnuts for fire roasting. They roast quickly and thoroughly and are perfect for snacking beside a warm fire with your beverage of choice. Medium sized chestnuts can do it all.
